Revealing Wellington’s best kept secrets

Inside Wellington’s warm heart is an über-cool, vibrant and rapidly growing urban culture with superb night spots, shopping and events, many of which have mysteriously managed to escape the glare of publicity.

Positively Wellington Tourism knew just who to come to when it wanted to support this quiet powerhouse with a website - it came to Breathe.

A community solution

Under the identity of Texture, we created a site that relies on the best informed people to keep it up to date – the urban community.

Texture peels back the layers of Wellington’s city culture with editorial content on shops, clubs, cafes and restaurants, and events. Pithy reviews and comment are posted on topics as wide ranging as a City Gallery art show to dissecting the characters of Wellington’s well known street people. Video, podcasts and picture galleries are all displayed along with in-depth profiles of all member businesses. An extremely active community discussion forum is available where shoppers, clubbers, the café society and those who just care about Wellington can share information, heap praise (or criticism), and create a self-made window into the heart of Wellington culture.

The hidden backend to Texture is a dev geek’s dream world with the Community Server software bent and twisted within an inch of its life. Tagging, RSS feeds and the search structure is seamlessly merged throughout the site, with a comprehensive content management system allowing full access to the team of editors and content owners.

Completing the communication circle is the integration of an e-newsletter service, with seamless subscribe/unsubscribe functionality, slick template design and simple self-editing features for Texture staff.

The result is a website that is as vibrant and sophisticated as the culture it promotes and helps Positively Wellington Tourism take even more of Wellington to the world.
